A Buffalo Herd?

Well, we got 10 inches of snow yesterday - it's currently 14 degrees with a wind chill of minus 4, the sun is brightly shining in a cloudless sky, and my satellite dish (attached to my patio wall) has icicles hanging from it.  Nedi ran out, patted the snow, ran next door, and ran back inside.  Lovey stood inside the door, and talked to herself, then went to the litter box and went back to bed.  Nedi is curled up on top of the cat tree.  While we're supposed to go above 32 degrees today, we are then expected not to hit a high of 25 until Tuesday; and, of course, we get more snow over the weekend - starting tonight.  Mother Nature has finally decided it's December in Colorado.

While I was visiting Florida, business mogul Ted Turner visited Boulder.  He had a meal at his restaurant, Ted's Montana Grill, and he pitched an idea to the folks who run the Boulder County Open Space.  He offered to give the county a herd of 25 young bison, so that, as people drive along US 36 into Boulder (and through a large Open Space area along Davidson Mesa) the folks in their vehicles can see a herd of buffaloes living wild, against a backdrop of the Rockies.  The mascot of the University of Colorado (here in Boulder) is the buffalo; and Ted Turner has donated the last two Ralphies, the living CU mascot, to the University.  The City Council is going to study the costs of having a "free roaming" bison herd on its Open Space.  One of the City Council members discussed doubt of accepting the offer, due to the cost.  There is a family that has a large bison ranch, out on 51st Street and Nelson Road; they have more than 50 head of the critters - why not just ask that family about the costs of keeping a herd of buffalo?  Personally, I think it's a great idea....
