We got a little over 3 inches of snow yesterday, and it continued to snow until 6 p.m. - the weather folks laughed and said the "Snow On" button was stuck in Boulder, as it didn't snow like that anywhere else. My kits were pretty disgusted by the new addition of snow, but several of the squirrels managed to get out and came over to eat on our patio. It's sunny, but cold this morning (6 degrees), and I hope to walk the red kids early this afternoon, instead of this morning. We all got a shock this morning while watching the local live news show - Kyle Dyer is a very petite, pretty lady who loves to read to her daughters, and who has a great affinity with animals. Kyle usually does all of the zoo and animal stories. This morning, she was interviewing the owner of a mastiff, whose rescue from a frozen pond by a local firefighter was covered live by the 9News helicopter yesterday evening. The owner, dog, and firefighter were there. Everyone petted the dog during the interview, which took place inside the studio, and, at the end of it, Kyle bent over to kiss the dog on the head. The dog leaped up and bit Kyle in the face. It was not a little nip. It was a bite that drew blood. She was treated by paramedics on the scene, and has been taken to the hospital. We're waiting to see if she will need reconstructive surgery. - That was frightening. I know that I would have been completely shocked and unprepared, given the dog's demeanor up to that point.
The crows and ravens are pitching fits outside, so I'll guess that the squirrels are eating on the patio. The birds get upset when the squirrels eat the nuts right away and don't bury them. But the kits are sleeping in the sun and soaking up the vitamins. I'm getting ready to double check with Rosie and Remy's owners about the timing of their walk today... I hope to do some research this morning, but we'll see....
