Usual Wide Variety...

Rosie and Remy got to meet the Akitas today, as did Mona.  Boo has been acquainted with them her entire life.  I had a nice chat with William as the dogs played through the fence - maybe tomorrow the Akitas will join in for a romp in the back yard. Nedi has been getting more and more cuddlesome, while Lovey has decided it's too hot to lie next to me, or on me, all the time.  I think that Nedi is figuring out his niche in life...  He's turning into a big sweetie.  -  And I start caring for Sasquatch and Tugger today, for the next six days.
The annual Chincoteague Pony Penning will actually start beginning tomorrow - members of the Pony Committee and the Saltwater Cowboys will start rounding up the herds on the north end of the Virginia part of Assateague.  A vet will be present, and any pony needing attention will get it - hooves will be trimmed, and blood samples drawn for the all-important Coggins test, so that foals going to new owners will be able to meet vaccination and documentation requirements by next Thursday afternoon.  (As usual, I'm frustrated by not being there...)  Herds from the southern end of Assateague will be rounded up and placed in the Holding Pens near Tom's Cove on Saturday and Sunday; and early morning Monday, the Beach Walk will take place - the herding of the northern bands down to Tom's Cove.  Any ponies that are deemed unfit to make the swim across the Channel on Wednesday will be trailered to the Carnival Grounds on Chincoteague - this includes mares that are about to foal, newborn foals and their dams, and any horse that isn't in good condition.
The small wildfire on Beaver Mountain has closed the Ute Trail in the Rocky Mountain National Park.  It is the hope of the fire fighters to have the fire completely contained by this evening.  Yesterday, several water drops were made on the fire by helicopter, and a partial containment line was dug.
