800 Acre Colorado Wildfire
I heard about a small fire in Soldier Canyon this morning - it is now known as the Galena Wildfire and is nearing 800 acres in area consumed. This fire is to the southwest of Fort Collins, in Lory State Park, near Horsetooth Reservoir. One section of this fire is within 1/4 mile of the edge of the High Park wildfire, which burned over 87,000 acres last summer and fall. The state of Colorado is in the middle of an extreme drought event. Today's humidity was 11%, it reached 76 degrees, and winds were extremely erratic and blowing at speeds up to 50 miles per hour. A very windy cold front is expected to push through the area overnight, bringing a 40% chance of rain for tomorrow.
