Fall Round-Up of Chincoteague Ponies

The Fall Round-Up is upon us - the Salt Water Cowboys of the Chincoteague Volunteer  Fire Company will be gathering tomorrow afternoon to gather the southern herds and separate the fall pick-up babies from their Moms.  While the northern herds are being rounded up, the veterinarian checks will be done on the ponies already at the Carnival Grounds, and those in the southern holding pens.
Everyone has been worried about the way that Hurricane Michael (now a tropical storm) will affect the Round-Up.  It doesn't look like there will be any problems, except possible rain - which can always occur on the islands - and possible high winds Friday afternoon and evening.
According to the National Weather Service and NOAA at Wallops Island, this is the forecast for the weekend, which was released at 6 o'clock this evening:
Friday (October 12):  A chance of showers before 9 am. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 71.  Windy, with a northwest wind at 24 to 29 mph, with gusts as high as 44 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.  New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Friday Night:  Mostly clear, with a low around 54. North wind 11 to 16 mph.
Saturday (October 13):  Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 63.  Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph.
Saturday Night:  Mostly clear, with a low around 52.  North wind 8 to 11 mph.
Sunday (October 14):  Mostly sunny, with a high near 67.

Six foals have been born since Pony Penning - five colts, and a filly was born two days ago on 9 October.  Bling Bling's bay colt sired by Chief, who was born 14 May, might also be up for sale.  Bling Bling and her son avoided the round-up men in July, and have been very hard to spot by the professional photographers, who know where to look.  It will be interesting to see if they are brought in on Saturday.
The foals born since the swim back to Assateague are:
Lady Hook and Puzzle's bay pinto colt born 30 July.
Black Star and Wild Thing's bay pinto colt born 3 August.
Elusive Star and Riptide's chestnut colt born on 9 August.
Pixie Dust and Don Lenard Stud II's bay colt born 21 August.
Sweetheart and Legacy's bay pinto colt born 6 September.
Pappy's Pony and Riptide's chestnut filly born 9 October.

The following is a quote from the  CVFC's Facebook page:

Late born foals - the foals that have been born since pony penning will be brought to the carnival grounds with their mares.  If you are interested in purchasing one of these foals, be at the carnival grounds Saturday afternoon, no earlier than 3:00 pm.  At that time, you can discuss purchase price and when you would be able to pick up your foal later (at least November). If you want to purchase a later-born foal, you have the information you need above.  My following post will be photos of the foals.
