Odd Dream - For Me, Anyway...

I had two dreams this morning that, somehow, melded together.  In the first dream, I was scared stiff, literally, when I awoke; the second went on to be delightful.  (Which is the odd part, for me.)  In the first dream, I was living in an old wooden house that had two or three stories - I was sound asleep in a bed, all nice and warm, on the top floor, when I awoke and realized that a huge thunderstorm with heavy rain had arrived.  I had on a nightgown, so I poked my feet into a pair of ballet slippers, and started closing windows on my way downstairs.  I was very comfortable and familiar with the house, and was making my way about without a candle, flashlight, or electric lights.  The wind was blowing the curtains to each window wildly, causing them to billow and envelope me at each opening.  The wind was making the leaves on the trees rustle, and sometimes I could hear a branch fall.  There was lightning all around, and I could see huge clouds racing across the sky, and, of course, there was thunder.  Huge grumbling sounds, but no loud deafening crashes to shock the ears.
I had closed the windows in my upper room, then gone into each of the tree rooms on the second floor, and closed those windows.  I was still very comfortable - I knew the house well, and I knew I was alone inside it.  I was almost at the bottom of the stairs, approaching the ground floor, and I was starting to move quickly, because I could hear the sound of the rain in the trees and on the ground getting closer.  Then there was a squeak and the sound of a foot step in the kitchen; or was it just the wind?  Then I heard a slight rustling sound coming towards the foot of the stairs.  I froze, with both of my hands clasped at the base of my throat, over my chest.  (How theatrical!)  Then the door of the kitchen slowly opened, and I could barely breathe, because I was so frightened.  A huge, lumpy figure moved almost soundlessly towards me.  There was the soft foot step, the strange rustling, and a slight sound of drip, drip, drip.
I couldn't move.  I was paralyzed with fear - my muscles were locked up. (Even as I'm writing this, my muscles are tensing...)  Then there was another huge flash of lightning - and I realized the figure was my husband, dressed in his World War I "dough-boy" uniform, wearing a huge rain slicker....  I barely could say, "It's ... you!"  And then I awoke in my own bed in the present.  All of my muscles were locked stiff - it took me about five minutes to relax each muscle and joint, so I could move.  At that point in time, I realized my bladder was full, so I slowly made my way to the bathroom, and then back to bed.
All of that time, I was trying to figure out who the man was that I spied just before I awoke.  In my dream, I knew it was my  husband.  Upon waking, I realized it was a familiar face, but it wasn't my husband in real life.  It took several minutes before I realized the man was almost, but not quite, a double for actor Gary Sinise....
I fell back asleep, hoping I wouldn't have anymore dreams that scared me so much.  Instead, I dreamed a whole life time of living with this American Army soldier who looked like Gary Sinise.  The time period covered the 1880s through the end of World War I, when he returned without word from the Front, and surprised me in our home.  A really strange, but romantic dream.  We traveled from Army post to post, starting in a time when every Fort had cavalry.  Apparently my husband was a lower-grade officer, and we moved every three years or so.  I always had my own horse to ride, wherever we were stationed.  And my husband always found flowers to give me every day - not huge bouquets, but wildflowers and leaves, that he found.  He would gather a little poesy of the flowers, and wrap thread around the stems to keep them together, and then hide them in places to surprise me.  In my dream, I'd find a small bunch of flowers in the ice-box, or on my saddle, laying on top of the dinner napkins, or on my pillow when we went to bed.   It was such a warm and comforting dream.  I felt so loved and cherished by this man that it was an incredible feeling.
I think that's why I had such an enjoyable day today - Our hundred-year old love story was sweet.

Cold Colorado and Critters

I know that I have a strange brain, and that my thoughts leap from flash-point to flash-point, seemingly with no coherent reason.  This morning, I took Rosie out for her potty break after sleeping the night away, as usual.  The temperature was below freezing, and Rosie had to empty her bladder.  It's pretty stupid, but I was amazed to watch the steam rise...   I guess I'm still keeping my brain trained to remember winter in Florida and northern Virginia.  I actually laughed aloud, which was very childish.  Anyway, it's just more proof that my mind doesn't work normally.
It's 27 degrees outside at nearly 9 a.m., but the sun is shining brightly.  The raven family has been visiting the restaurant dumpster, and are having a good time ripping the plastic bags open and getting large pieces of food out.  Beatrice put out nuts for the squirrels last night, and Bertrando has been sunning on top of the telephone pole, while munching away on his breakfast.  So far, it doesn't look like any birds have been attracted to the suet and seed feeder, and the Niger seed (thistle) also looks like it hasn't been touched.  But the birds and the squirrels seem to be enjoying our offering of nuts, dried berries and hulled sunflower seeds in the large feeder.  Perhaps when the forecast arctic blast arrives Monday night, the critters will feel the need for suet - we try to fulfill all the critters' needs.
I pulled the ivy and the honeysuckle inside on Thursday - the ivy seems happy whether it's inside or out, but the honeysuckle leaves had gone quite limp.  They are now filled out and standing proudly from the stems again; I guess they're both in for the season now.  And thank goodness I placed the honeysuckle pot on a wheeled base!  We seem to move it around several times each day, and it weighs about 70 pounds...
We are finishing up our big grocery shopping spree today and tomorrow, and putting up our outside Christmas lights.  We'll probably get a tree between the tenth and fourteenth, which means a trip to the basement to get the Christmas decorations out.  But, then too, we need to take Nedi's scratching box down, so we'll have room to set up the tree...  It all works out in the end!

Cats in Snow - Photos

Snow!

We're having our second snow fall of the fall - it'd been falling steadily here in Boulder since 9 a.m., and is forecast to end about 9 tonight.  Our high temperature for the day was 31 degrees (F), but there is very little accumulation on the ground.  There is about a half-inch on the chairs, table and hot-tub cover here at Rosie's, but the road is clear of snow, though the driveway isn't.  I am staying at Rosie's until Sunday night, when her family returns.
I, once again, had to laugh and shake my head over a client - both yesterday and today.  She called me up, asking if I could send something to her via overnight express shipping at 5 yesterday evening.  But she wanted to receive it before 5 p.m. today.  I told her I couldn't do it.  So she tracked down several other friends of hers, who, also, could not accommodate her.  She called me back at 9:30 last night, and explained that she'd be staying at Disneyland, and she needed to receive the package before she arrived.  (It's a legal herbal supplement around the world.)  I asked why she couldn't receive it at her Disney hotel?  Oh!   She hadn't thought of that...  So, at 10:30 last night, she texts me the details of where they're staying at Disney - I was in bed.
This morning, I went to her home and picked up the small plastic tub that weighed 8 ounces.  I took it to FedEx and sent it off to Disneyland.  I could have the package delivered before 10 a.m. tomorrow, before noon tomorrow, or before 10 a.m. Monday.  The client is leaving Monday for Mexico, and she wanted it immediately.  The costs for the three deliveries were:  $119, $74, or $56.  I chose the $74 one with delivery by noon tomorrow (Saturday).  I paid this out of my own pocket, with a reimbursement promised by the client.  Thank goodness I had enough to cover the cost, as I had just paid my rent and all other bills due...
Tomorrow Beatrice and I plan on hanging our icicle lights from the balcony, and deciding how to put up the colored lights.  She wants to put up the multi-colored rope light over the sliding glass door, but I think we'll need Mike and his trusty electric screwdriver to place the screwed holders into the concrete-board siding.  I had a very hard time driving nails in, and so did Mike, the last time we put things up out there....    And we're expecting an Arctic front Monday night through Wednesday, with highs in the teens and lows in the single digits, with lots of snow!  Got my plants in off the balcony this afternoon, in preparation for that.
I hope that all of you have a great weekend, where ever you live!
