Kepler, Gimpy , and... Snow?

Kepler was successfully launched this morning from Cape Canaveral, so CU students will be kept hopping for quite a while. It's 34 degrees outside; there are some clouds to the east, and some darker ones over the Front Range; our high today will be about 61 and -guess what?- it'll be windy (isn't that amazing?)! We are expecting snow tomorrow and Tuesday - so I will be very excited. Things seem to be getting back to normal here... The new sprinkler system has been buried - and the kits are scampering about, attacking stray stones and dirt clods.

Before heading off to my appointment yesterday afternoon, I was sitting here at the desk eating some fruit. The patio door was open, the kits were playing, and I was facing east so I could easily prop my left foot and knee up. I saw movement on the top level of the cat tree, which is inside the door and about four feet from my desk chair. I casually glanced at the tree, expecting to see either Lovey or Banichi sitting there. There was Gimpy the squirrel, eating a peanut without a care in the world. We exchanged a stare for about 30 seconds - until Banichi decided to come rocketing back in through the door; then Gimpy left the scene post haste.

During the city of Boulder's 150th birthday celebration, the city is re-surfacing and widening Broadway (also known as 12th Street), which is a main north/south artery that runs parallel to the Foothills and Front Range of the Rockies. Yesterday, while the utility companies were marking their lines, a remnant of Olde Boulder was found - the steel tracks of the electric tram (or trolley car, if you prefer) were found running along the middle of Broadway. It was last used in 1937, but the twin rails still run true under all the asphalt and back-filling of the last 72 years... Maybe we should go back to some of "the old ways"????
