I began a new (to me) Wilbur Smith novel last night, and now I don't want to stop reading - the title is The Seventh Scroll, and I find it fascinating. We had a huge thunder and lightning storm roll through here around 1:30 this morning... Luckily neither Sophie nor Walt are phased by the noise. But then, we have found out that Walt is going deaf... he's a very visual dog, and follows Sophie, and is eager to work with hand signs, but now we worry about walking him without his leash, as we did in the past. I did miss having the kits with me last night, but will go visit them soon. We are now having typical Colorado weather - lows in the 50s and highs in the 90s, with late afternoon and evening thunderstorms. And, if you missed Keith Olbermann's Special Comment last night on Countdown, about health care and scare tactics, you can read it at: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32363493/ns/msnbc_tv-countdown_with_keith_olbermann/ - I thoroughly applaud his view.
The Department of Wildlife tranquilized, tagged, and transferred a young female mountain lion from the eastern plains in Colorado back into the mountains on Sunday. The young cat ended up in a neighborhood near the Denver International Airport, seeking prey, when she ran by a gentleman parking his car in his driveway; the cat went into the garage. The man closed the garage door and then called DoW. They estimated the cat at 65 pounds, and about 14 months old. She was released on the western slope of the divide. ... Drilling for Oil was a young thoroughbred stallion; he was a graded Stakes winner; and he had been standing at stud in North America. In July he was shipped to Peru, to begin a couple of seasons at stud in the southern hemisphere. On August 6, he was reported missing, possibly stolen, from the horse farm. His remains were found less than 15 miles from the farm, where he had been killed, and butchered for his meat. What a sad way to end....
