Crazy Boulderites

After several gorgeous fall days, the remnants of Tropical Storm Simon dumped on Colorado.  We were luckier than Arizona, in that we haven't (yet) had any massive flooding.  Boulder got a half-inch of rain from noon until midnight; Colorado Springs had 3.6 inches.  And there was some flooding in the areas of the Black Forest and Waldo Canyon fires - but nothing like the metro areas of Arizona were subjected to.  We're expecting more showers today and a high of 59 degrees.  Lyra surprised me by sleeping with me all night; while Tessa slept on the floor next to the bed.
With the cool air and the rain yesterday, there was snow in the high country.  There was quite an accumulation at 11,00 feet and higher, but snow fell all the way down to 7,000 feet this morning.  That means if I decided to drive up Boulder Canyon today, I'd see snow about two miles past the city limits....  And it means that Grandma Anne got her first snow of the season, up on Sugarloaf Mountain - her house is at 8,400 feet.
One of  the regular Boulder "trouble-makers" is back in the news again.  Robert Pierce, and his wife Catharine, first came to my attention when they insisted on working in their front yard garden wearing nothing but thong bottoms.  She became known as the "topless gardener" in 2010, when the City of Boulder decided it couldn't prosecute her for being topless in her own yard; even though the two rent the house through the Boulder Housing Partners, which helps pay their rent with subsidies. People wrote many Letters to the Editor of our local newspaper, complaining that they and their children were subjected to views of Catharine's breasts, as the house is on one of the roads that leads to a local elementary school; others wrote they had changed their walking or biking routes to avoid the spectacle.  The paper, at one time, published a view of the couples' backsides, while both wore only their thong bottoms.  (Now that gave me an upset tummy...)   In 2012, the husband was arrested in Ohio; he was stopped for a minor traffic violation, but told the officer who stopped him that he was on his way to "kill Obama."  A check of the vehicle's trunk found a rifle and an automatic hand gun.  Robert was sent back to Boulder for psychiatric counseling.
Yesterday, according to a police report, Robert accosted an RTD (bus) security guard, after the guard told Catharine that she had to put her shirt on, as she was sitting on a bench outside the main station in Boulder, and had nothing covering her above the waist.  Before approaching the woman, the security guard had asked the RTD route supervisor  to accompany him as a witness, which he did.  The report stated that Catharine put her shirt back on, and closed it.  Then her husband started yelling at the guard, poking him in the chest with a finger, and then grabbing his arm.  The guard and Pierce ended up "wrestling" until handcuffs were placed on Pierce.  Meanwhile, Catharine continued to sit on the bench and smile.  When the Boulder police arrived, Catharine complained that the security guard had "punched her in the stomach" - which she later changed to "poked me in the stomach."  When asked whether she had been punched or poked, she asked, "Is there a difference?"  She was not charged, but admitted that she had been told more than two months ago that she must wear a top in public when on RTD property.  Before bailing out of jail, Robert Pierce was told he was banned from RTD property for the next 12 months.  Catharine Pierce was informed of the same ban, which a judge signed into effect during Mr. Pierce's incarceration.
Can I get a Bronx cheer for a pair of Boulder's wackos?
