Results - With Photos of the 2020 Chincoteague Pony Penning Auction

We had 72 foals born before Pony Penning this year; and 68 were sold at the virtual on-line auction, which ended last night.  One foal was lost due to an accident (#15); one was lost due to a deadly congenital condition (#69); one foal was born prematurely and had medical issues (#23), and the family who is nursing the baby back to health has donated funds to the CVFC and has adopted the filly; and one foal (#13) was chosen as a replacement for a BuyBack that passed away from equine pythiosis ("swamp cancer") two years ago.
The 68 foals that were sold, brought in a total of $387,950; with five lots of donated art work bringing in $2,100, the total amount raised during the auction was $390,050.  The ten BuyBack fillies brought in $183,500 of that amount.  The lowest winning bid on a foal was $1,800 (for a beautiful chestnut filly that I consider one of the best buys of the sale), and the highest price paid this year was for a BuyBack filly at $28,250.
*** As a personal note, I have been keeping records of the foals sold for the last 54 years, and there have never been so many palomino or palomino pintos born in one season before... ***
Following are a photo of each foal sold at this year's auction, with the foal number, winning bid amount, sex, and date of birth (first seen date - the foal might have been born after dark but before midnight of the day it was first seen).  All photos were taken at the Carnival Grounds on Tuesday of Wednesday (July 28 or 29, 2020) by DSC Photography (https://www.dscphotography.net ) and they own the copyrights of these photos.  Do not re-use these photos without their permission.  The BuyBacks have already been freeze-branded with the number 20.
Please also note that they older foals have lost their fuzzy baby coats; others ate in the midst of losing theirs; and the youngest still have them.  Foals 60 through 72, if not a BuyBack, will be picked up by their new owners in October, when they are old enough to be weaned.
