We've been much warmer than usual for the month of October - it was breezy yesterday afternoon with highs in the 80s; today it was in the mid-70s, but it was downright windy (with gusts up to 63 mph). The bat decorations broke loose this morning, but we caught them before they flew away. Have had to fold up and place all other balcony items inside - but the poor honeysuckle vine has had almost all of its leaves blown off and away... Due to be cooler the next three days, 60s and 50s, and then return to the 70s for the weekend. Not true Indian Summer, not a true fall experience, either.
The thought of Donald Trump as President of the United States scares me. While the state of Colorado is largely Republican in the rural areas, most of the cities are Democrat. I was quite surprised yesterday when the local newspaper announced that Donald Trump , Jr was holding a campaign stop/rally on University Hill in Boulder, at a restaurant named The Sink. It's a pizza parlor and tavern combination - and President Obama stopped there and ate and drank and chatted with the students a few years ago. The City of Boulder consists of less than an 8% Republican membership. Why would Trump, Jr decide to stop here? Well, the owners of The Sink were not told before the announcement of the intended stop. This morning, Trump, Jr and the campaign office were told that the owner of The Sink did not want to be visited. This afternoon, Trump, Jr appeared in a venue on Pearl Street - a mile or more away from his chosen spot.
Today Melania Trump appeared in an interview with Anderson Cooper and declared that Billy Bush had egged her husband on in making his egregious comments about his sexual predatory behavior. She stated that it was just "boy's locker room talk" and that, while she found his words on the tape offensive, it wasn't "the real man," and that he had been led into making all of those remarks in 2005. I was OK, hearing that statement, but then an announcer stated that Melania Trump was a "very private and shy person." The Diet Coca-Cola I had just sipped shot out of my nose in astonishment. This woman, who has exposed every part of her body to photographers, is private and shy?!? Her photos could be a spread for Slut of the Year, and no one would blink an eye. (And yet Michelle Obama received abuse for daring to wear a sleeveless dress?!?) Talk about double standards...
My other comment is about Trump's complaint that the election process is rigged. Was it rigged for Nixon? Was it rigged for Reagan? Was it rigged for Gore? I think NOT. In the first Presidential debate, Trump said he would accept the voting of the American electorate. Since then, he has whined that the election is rigged, almost every single day. Pence, Trump's running mate, says they will accept the vote of the American public. Paul Ryan, the head of the Republican party, says that the election process is clean and proven. Trump says the voting is rigged - a month before the election. Between 2000 and 2014, over 3 billion votes have been cast in thousands of elections. During that time, only 31 cases of voter fraud have been found - with searches made on all levels of the voting and accounting hierarchy. I think Trump just doesn't want to accept the fact that he will probably lose on 8 November

Bits and Pieces
Some things just keep running through my mind....
Why does Donald Trump keep bringing up Hillary Clinton's mistake using a personal e-mail server while she was Secretary of State? Yes, she erased 35,000 e-mails. The FBI and the DoJ have decided not to press charges against her.
What about the 22 million e-mails that were lost by the Bush White House administration, all while using a Republican National Committee public server - thousands of people had access to those e-mails....
Several weeks ago, a teenage driver struck and killed a man confined to a wheelchair while he was using a pedestrian crosswalk in a nearby town. (I am sorry for both of them, and for their families.) It was only recently realized that the handicapped man had been a "panhandler" in the city of Boulder for more than 20 years. I remember reading complaints about him in the newspaper, when I moved here 12 years ago. Since his death, however, the same newspaper is calling the man "an iconic member of the Boulder community." Why? Because we shouldn't speak ill of the dead?
Both Hillary, and her husband, Bill Clinton, have been investigated by Special Government Prosecutors, both before, during, and after Bill Clinton was President of the United States. No charges were ever brought against either of them, for any type of wrong-doing. Bill Clinton was impeached by a Republican Congress, but those charges were also dropped. They may have paid fines and legal fees, but they were never convicted of anything.
Donald Trump has been sued, faced multiple law suits, paid fines to county and state and the national government. These have been occurring since the early 1970s and he declared bankruptcy in 1991, 1992, 2004, and 2009. Of these four bankruptcies, he stated, "I was just playing the game" and used "the law to pare away my debt." In 1995 he declared business losses of $915 million, and used the tax laws to not pay personal income tax for 18 years. He has been sued for his behavior at multiple beauty pageants since 1992, and has always "settled privately." (Settled privately, here, means that he paid people money to keep their mouths closed and not tell the truth.) In New York City, he was charged with Racial Housing Discrimination in 1973, 1974, and 1975 - his lawyers arranged for him to pay fines. He was charged with, and fined for, having Mafia ties in both New York City and Atlantic City, NJ. For four years in the 1980s, he was charged with tenant intimidation in New York City - he settled privately. In 1989, his then wife, Ivana, accused him of marital rape - much later, before their divorce, she said it was "taken the wrong way." He was fined for breaking Casino Rules in 1990, 1991, and 2000 in both New York and New Jersey. He was fined $750,000 for Anti-Trust violations in 1986. Not to mention the Trump Institute and the Trump Foundation... He admits that he has broken laws, and then pays off the injured, or pays governmental fines.
Bill Clinton loves women. And he's had trouble because of that. But Bill is not running for President; Hillary Clinton is. Hillary Clinton apparently loves Bill deeply, and has stood by him, in good times and bad. They have one daughter, Chelsea, and two grandchildren, Charlotte and Aidan.

Trump started dating Marla Maples, his second wife, long before he divorced Ivana, his first wife. Trump and Marla were married in 1993, and had Tiffany. Their marriage ended in 1999. In 2005, Trump married another European model, Melania, and they produced a son, Barron. Trump has eight grandchildren; five are children of Donald Jr, Kai, Tristan, Chloe, Spencer, and Donald III; and three are Ivanka's, Arabella, Theodore, and Joseph.
Hillary Clinton has her hopes and plans for her Presidency on the internet.
Trump says his are "secret" and he'll reveal them when he's ready - after the election? When he's actually in office? When?
As far as I can see, and look back, Clinton's biggest mistakes were hiding her diagnosis of pneumonia; and calling Trump supporters "deplorables." She has apologized for both.
Trump, on the other hand, has made so many proclamations that are wrong, and denied them; has denied saying things that are easily seen (and verified) on audio and visual recordings; and, on Sunday, declared that when he's President, he will see Hillary Clinton jailed. That's just too much for me. Today, after multiple Republican statesmen have revoked their endorsements of him, he says he's now "free of the shackles." What other repulsive, loathsome words will spill out of him before and during the next debate (on October 19)?
I hate to admit it, but I now feel that I must watch the debate - just to see what outrageous things Trump says, and what he decides to accuse Hillary Clinton (and her husband) of next....

Presidential Town Hall Meeting (Debate?)
Well, it was at least interesting, watching Donald Trump prowl around like a caged wild animal while his opponent, Hillary Clinton, responded to the questions asked by audience members and the two moderators. I don't think that Donald Trump responded directly to any questions asked, except two: "Have you ever done those things?", "No, I have not." - in regard to his "hot microphone" comments from 2005 describing himself grabbing women by their genitals and kissing them without permission; and, Anderson Cooper asked him if he used the tax law, after claiming a $916 million loss, to avoid paying personal income taxes for 18 years or more, Trump said, "Of course I do. Of course I do."
Clinton seemed pretty quiet, almost reserved, at most times during the debate. Donald Trump spoke as if he had been given a massive dose of tranquilizers - no yelling tonight, though he frequently spoke over and across Clinton when she was making her replies. He also spoke over the moderators a great deal - both male and female. His loud nasal sniffing was also quite apparent when breathing during long sentences, and inhaling prior to speaking. Does he need an oxygen tank? Or has he been sniffing too much cocaine?
Several audience members, voters who were undecided, were on the stage to ask both candidates a series of questions regarding their views and outlooks on subjects the audience felt were important. Trump side-stepped almost every question, and wandered into other areas that he wanted to speak about. Clinton tried to answer the direct questions, and wandered occasionally. A Muslim woman asked how they would make her life easier when they were in office, if elected, with the growing tide of Islamophobia. An African-American man asked if they would be devoted to protecting all citizens of the United States. A man asked about energy resources and job safety. A man asked about tax reform. An African-American female teacher asked about the demeanor, speech, and actions of todays' candidates, considering that a lot of school children were asked to watch the news regarding the Presidential candidates, as well as the debates. And a man asked what one thing did the candidates like about each other.
Clinton answered the questions posed to her; Trump answered three of the hundred that were asked him. (The two I listed above, and the last question - he likes that Clinton is a fighter. Clinton likes Trump's children.)
During the evening, Trump called Clinton a devil, and stated that when he's elected, he'll appoint a Special Prosecutor and have her arrested and thrown in jail because of her e-mail scandal. He stated that she's now blaming Abraham Lincoln for her own troubles... and that "Honest Abe never told a single lie." He did. Well, few people know that Abraham Lincoln was a victim of spousal abuse, either. Mary used to beat him with a broom, and he appeared at his law office in Springfield with black eyes and bruises... But Trump would never admit that.

First Presidential Candidate Debate of 2016
Apparently I can't keep my own word - after watching the first debate of the Presidential candidates for the election that will take place in 43 days, I just have to write a few things. Tuesday, 8 November, is the day that most Americans will go to the polls and cast their single vote for their choice as the next American President. There are actually four candidates in the running, but the two major party candidates, Democrat and Republican, will get the majority of the votes. There is a small concern that quite a few Democrats may choose to vote for the two other candidates, and thereby lessen the Democrats chance of winning this year's election. I sincerely hope that does not occur. The two other major candidates did not have enough support in the Public Polls to be invited to participate in the Debates - so we had only Mr Donald Trump and former First Lady, former Senator, and former Secretary of State Hilary Clinton at the two podiums, facing an audience at Hofstra University, and the moderator, NBC national news anchor, Lester Holt.
It was not a pretty debate. The moderator did not do his job. I sincerely believe that the best way to run one of these debates is to have someone sitting in a booth, or at an audio board, who can turn off each candidate's microphone - whenever the candidate runs over their specified time limit, and/or whenever the candidate stops speaking about the current, announced topic. That way neither candidate could interrupt the other - neither candidate could talk louder and louder to drown out their opponent - and neither candidate could interrupt, or ignore, the moderator. I had entertained great hopes that Lester Holt would be able to control the candidates and moderate an intelligent debate. Nope, couldn't happen. Didn't happen. I was disappointed.
CNN did some quick fact-checking during, and immediately after, the debate. It was found that in one instance that Clinton stretched the truth a bit, but was totally correct regarding the outcome of a statement. Trump was listed as making a false statement eight times, and as stretching the truth four times, and being incorrect at the outcome. I can't wait to see what else is found by the time I get going in the morning!
I am driving a friend's car this week. He printed his own bumper sticker and placed it on the rear of his vehicle - a rather large white rectangle (on a navy blue car) with black letters that read:

In the last three days, I have received 8 compliments on the sticker, and have had 31 people honk their horns and give me the thumbs up sign. I've returned to the car and seen 8 people taking photos of the bumper sticker. Yesterday, a man driving a Jaguar and wearing a pin-striped suit shook his fist at me. And, while at the Credit Union today, I stepped back outside to find a man on his knees taking a photo of the sign. As I approached, another man grabbed him by the shoulder and told him he needed to get out of the drive; the first man stood up, and pointed at the bumper, laughing. A third man walked up, looked at it, and laughed. The second man started pushing the other two men. I walked up, and asked, innocently, "You guys like my bumper sticker?" They all left, going in different directions.... And I got into my friend's car, shaking my head at folks who can't take a joke....

My Political Stance
Donald Trump frightens me. I do not want him to be the President of the United States of America. For as long as I can remember, his name has always been joined with over-blown drama, bigotry, bankruptcies, divorces, company buy-outs followed by collapses, and a type of blow-hard blasphemy that is amazing. He has never impressed me on any level. He openly admits that he uses tax and bankruptcy laws to escape debt and start anew. He has been married multiple times to women who are not American born or bred. He has quite a few children, and seems to be disgustingly sexually attracted to his own daughters. He makes outrageous inaccurate statements and laughs them off. Trump denigrates anyone who is not Caucasian male of European descent. He treats women and racial minorities as people to be kicked in the teeth when they agree with him; and if those people do not agree with his statements, then he calls them names with a lot of profanity thrown in.
This man seems to be a small-minded simple bigot, who should never have been allowed media coverage - for anything. He sees himself as Mister America or Uncle Sam. As a white female, I see him as Simon Legree. If I had my way, I'd never hear his name, nor see him or hear him, ever again. This man is making America the laughing stock of the world. His Grand Old Party leaders need to put a barbed choke-chain collar around his neck and make him behave in a sensible manner. But - I forgot - he is the Donald Trump, and feels he is above all laws of this earth.
Heaven help us if he is elected.
