USS Fitzgerald - and Appointees

So the President, who has consistently Tweeted his thoughts, even after the White House Press Staff has stated that 45's Tweets are "official Presidential statements," has now stated that "I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director!  Witch Hunt"  Hunh.
Yesterday afternoon in Colorado, but early Saturday morning in the sea off Japan, a Phillipine  container ship collided with the USS Fitzgerald, a 505-foot US Navy missile destroyer.  It looks like the container ship has some buckling of the port bow, but a large section on the starboard of the Fitzgerald was crushed, and the hull is breached under the waterline.  The bilge pumps have been running continuously since the collision, but the ship is listing due to water weight.  The Commanding Officer was air-lifted off the ship and is receiving treatment in Japan.  Multiple sailors are injured, but we have no list of the men, or their injuries.  Two other sailors have been air-lifted from the ship.  The worst part is that seven sailors are missing.  So far, none have been found.  I think that one of my biggest problems with this is that the President of the United States, the Commander in Chief, did not say a word about this yesterday - it wasn't until 1 hour ago (almost 18 hours after the accident) that he decided to mention it - on Twitter, of course - "Thoughts and prayers with the sailors of USS Fitzgerald and their families. Thank you to our Japanese allies for their assistance."
The Japanese Navy has sent one of their ships to aid and support the USS Fitzgerald, along with two tug boats to help guide and support the stricken vessel.  Another US destroyer is on it's way to assist the ship, also.  But one of the biggest problems is that there could be no calls for assistance to the US Japanese Ambassador, nor to the US Navy Secretary - because neither one currently exists.  The positions exist in the government ranks, but no one has been named or nominated to fill those two positions by the current President.  So the US Navy families must just sit on their hands and wait for reports to be vetted and finally released to the world at large.  This stinks for any military family, period.
Before 45 became President by taking his Oath of Office on 20 January 2017, he was aware that he needed to appoint 558 people for key positions that require the confirmation of the US Senate.  To date, 42  positions have been confirmed.  He has nominated 94 others, and has stated that he wants, but not actually nominated, 7 others.  415 key positions have not been mentioned by the President, and all offices are empty, because he has not yet seen fit to nominate people.  More details on this may be found at:  https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/politics/trump-administration-appointee-tracker/database/

If you dislike the sitting President, and have an outrageous sense of humor, I suggest you visit Randy Rainbow's page on Facebook - and especially watch and enjoy his music videos...

"Alternative Facts"

The past week, and even this morning, have been interesting, to say the least.  The main item that made me yelp with laughter this morning was Kellyanne Conway's comment on "Meet the Press" that White House spokesman Sean Spicer had given "alternative facts" out during Saturday afternoon's news briefing.  Of course, Spicer was commenting on how huge the crowd size was for Friday's Inauguration - the number of people who were there in person, and who viewed it on television.  Both Spicer, and the Circus Peanut today, made statements that the Inauguration had the highest number of viewers (both in person and on TV) that had ever occurred.  Well, let's check a few numbers: television viewership of the Presidential Inauguration was 30.6 million this year; 20.5 million for Obama's second Inauguration; and 38 million in 2009 for Obama's first Inauguration.  Hmmmm.  Somehow, 30.6 million in 2017 does not appear to be larger than 38 million in 2009. - But wait - Maybe it's those "alternative facts"....
On Twitter today, the Circus Peanut stated that he received several standing ovations when he was speaking to people employed by the CIA yesterday.  The CIA employees who attended the address were standing in a hall with no seating available - of course they gave the person speaking "standing ovations" - there was no place to sit.  I heard most of his speech yesterday at the CIA Headquarters, and it was appallingly narcissistic; not a word about the Wall of Stars he was standing in front of, less than a minute about the CIA itself, and the rest about him.  Pathetic.
If the White House is going to be pushing "Alternative Facts" at the American public - there are several things that we, as citizens of the United States and of the world must do.  We cannot complacently follow their instructions, or we will cease to think.  We cannot allow our leaders to change history - at this rate, we will be told that the Holocaust never occurred; that the bombing of Pearl Harbor was just a bad, shared dream; that our country never achieved independence; and that we must bow down to Mother Russia as the source of all good....
Waiting to see what will happen next.

The Newly Elected President

As with General Cornwallis and his men at Yorktown, Virginia at the end of America's Revolutionary War, we have seen "the world turned upside down."  I'm speaking of the unbelievable Presidential election win by the Republican Party candidate.  I fear to find Armageddon will arrive on 21 January 2017, the first full day of his Presidency.  The man still scares the beJesus out of me.
My roommate and I have decided not to refer to this man by name.  We refer to him as either "the Circus Peanut" or "Trumplethinskin."  The first choice is because (a) he looks orange - don't know if it's a bad spray-tan, or a horrible reaction to a tanning bed or just outrageously poor make-up; (b) too many of them will make you ill; (c) they are pretty cheap; (d) they are not unique - you can buy them by the bag almost anywhere; and (e) his head carries a peanut-sized brain.  The second name, does, unfortunately, contain his surname, but we just can't help but feel that it's extremely accurate - he  most definitely does have a thin skin.  All of his Tweets indicate a person who has an astronomically huge ego, but is still very much an immature boy, who speaks before thinking, and thrives on planning revenge for any perceived personal snub.  Rumplestiltskin kept the maiden a captive in the tower to spin straw into gold to make him rich. Trumplethinskin believes that he can do anything he pleases to any female - all he has to do is pay them enough, or threaten them enough, to keep them quiet.
This person has zero respect for anyone who disagrees with him, or who can get the better of him in any type of contest.  He is a sore loser, and a sore winner. Nothing satisfies him.  He won't listen to intelligence briefings before becoming the sworn-in, actual, legal President - he says he already knows that stuff and he doesn't believe what's being reported anyway.  "Let's have an arms race," he says.  Russia is the only country that has more nuclear devices than the United States has - what is he thinking?  Is that how he plans to bring new jobs to the country?  Is he going to try to have a draft for the Armed Services - and, if so, will his children and grandchildren be included?
This person has no political background.  Yes, he has been a "businessman" for quite some time.  I can't call his businesses successful - he owes more than 90% of his much-touted wealth in investment and other business deals; he's declared bankruptcy multiple times to re-organize, or kill, businesses that are not turning a profit.  The man has broken the law and paid 'inconsequential' government fines for breaking the law, and he continues to do so.  (I say 'inconsequential' fines because he pays tiny fines in proportion to the illegally made monies.)
His chosen Cabinet members, so far, also scare me.  They seem to represent people with great racial hatreds, with ties to the Ku Klux Klan, to white supremacists, to Neo-Nazis, and to armed militia groups.  He's still talking about a ban on Muslims and other religious beliefs.  It seems as if he's a little boy, poking an ant-hill with a stick, just to see how roiled he can make the entire colony....
He truly frightens me.  He is trying to side-step Constitutional laws - seemingly because he doesn't believe they could possibly apply to himself.  He wants to run the United States of America, and run his own businesses as well, make deals with foreign countries, and have his sons and daughters help him decide what to do when, and with whom.  It is illegal, as the duly elected President of the United States, to do any of these things.  May the Gods above have mercy upon us Americans once President Obama leaves office.
