Here and There, Bits and Pieces

I am going to try to get back into the habit of blogging daily again.  I have jobs through the end of July, but nothing yet in August, though I'm sure that a few of my regular clients will suddenly remember that they haven't yet scheduled me to cover for their vacations.  I've been busy trying to keep up with all the new foals on the southern end of Assateague, taking care of multiple houses and the attached critters, working on three families genealogy, trying to keep up with the news, and reading for pleasure.
I stopped in at the pharmacy yesterday to pick up my anxiety/high blood pressure medication, and received quite a surprise.  I normally get a 90 day supply of 90 50mg tablets four times each year.  Yesterday I was given 30 tablets, and was informed that the pharmacy would not have them in stock again until September - and that I needed to contact my MD and ask to try a different medication.  I just checked for shortages of the medication, but could find none.  I will be calling another pharmacy to see if they have the same problem, and, if not, will transfer my prescription to them.  If there is a shortage of this very prevalent beta-blocker, I want to know why it wasn't recognized sooner - and I guess I'll need to call my MD.  But this has me quite upset, which isn't good for my blood pressure, nor my anxiety.  Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!
My wonderful 2-year-old Chincoteague filly, Surfer Princess, has apparently settled in with Tornado Legacy's herd.  Legacy is a buckskin pinto, and the Princess is a rich copper color.  I'm hoping she won't have a foal until the summer that she turns four, but I can't control Mother Nature.  Her dam, Surf Queen, has finally settled in Hoppy's herd.  Hoppy is the nickname of Effie's Papa Bear, and he is a 15 hand bay stallion with no markings, not even a brand.  On Monday, June 26, Surf Queen had a half-sister to the Princess - another gorgeous filly, solid bay with three white anklets below her fetlocks and a black right hind.   And I think her legs are longer than the Princess's were...
At the moment, we're sitting at 60 foals born in the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge.  There have been, so far, no new births reported since Surf Queen on Monday - but today might bring new sightings - and there have been three deaths.  One of the deaths, perhaps, might have been prevented - the mare White Saddle lost her foal last year to the marsh, and the same thing occurred this this year.  I am going to ask the Pony Committee to, next year, take her and her newborn to one of the farms on Chincoteague, so that White Saddle won't lead her baby where it should not go again.  The other two deaths were due to a massive infection incurred at birth, and to a congenital leg abnormality.  I'll soon start posting photos of all the foals born so far this year, in order of birth.
Despite the snow melt making our local creeks run a bit higher than normal, our vegetation is very dry.  There was a grass fire that burned 3 acres yesterday because some idiot set off fireworks along the side of a road - in someone's hay field.  We had an adult black bear spend yesterday in a tree at the corner of 16th Street and Spruce Avenue here in Boulder.  It moved back to the open green space to the west of town during the night.  And an adult moose decided to visit the Flatirons Mall - at an 8-lane Interstate intersection the day before yesterday.  Wildlife officials had to tranquilize the moose, after which they trailered it to South Park, where they turned it loose.
I am upset, and will stay upset, for as long as the Pompous Pricktator is in the White House.  I well remember that it took almost two years for Nixon to resign - and I hope and pray that this Putin-Sucker will not be able to hold out that long.  That oddly-coiffed creature is an abomination on this planet.  I would dance with joy if he and his cronies were suddenly dropped into Hell through a fiery maw that suddenly opened up beneath their feet!  That mass of orange crass is an ass.  Disgusting.

Busy, Busy - & BC3 Thoroughbreds

Running around between pets and houses today;  woke up with Charlie and Tinkerbelle fed them breakfast and walked Charlie, then spent an hour with Tugger and Sasquatch, then stopped by to feed and water Lilly and Lyra.  At that time, I was due to grab Rosie, and we walked for an hour.  Then I headed over to Kathy and Jim's and we did some clearance shifting of books and clothes that are to be given away to various charities; then I went home for two hours to see my kits.  I didn't even think about opening the back door, as the neighbor's visitor (or, possibly, new girlfriend?) was out back, throwing knives again.  I laid down on my bed and took a nap with both of my kits.  Heading back to Charlie's, I stopped by WalMart and got  some bacon-cheddar potato skins and  several tomatoes and peppers to make a crisp, hot salsa for the Snow family get together tomorrow.  Brought Boo down to play with Charlie on the way back; I'll return Boo when I go to Lilly and Lyra, and then loop around to Tugger and Sasquatch again.  Then back here for supper.
Poor Erin.  She has such a terrible cold!  We (Kathy, Jim and I) went over at their invitation yesterday evening, and then visited The Hungry Toad Pub for our meal.  Erin had French Onion soup and a nice salad, but the rest of us got different kinds of burgers, mine with fries, and others with huge onion rings.  I was sitting with a view of the monitor, and they had the Pizza Hut(?) Bowl on - Pitt against BCSU.  When I looked up, there were 31 seconds left in the game, it was 4th down and 40 yards.  The pub had been quite loud, and I suddenly realized people were looking at me because, they had gotten silent for the last play, and I had unwittingly added my own commentary -  "Bad snap. A lateral, another lateral, and yet another...  oh, you idiot, you just threw back into your own end zone! You poor child."  I certainly hadn't meant to be the center of attention, and was mollified by all the eyes turned upon me....
And, down in Australia, the thoroughbred racing interests are still reeling with the sudden collapse of BC3 Thoroughbreds.  Magic Millions, a blood stock agency, has repossessed nine youngsters (seven 2-year-olds and two yearlings) that will be resold at auction with no reserve.  Inglis and Son, another blood stock agency, have eight repossessed horses that are now up for private sale.  Inglis also holds the marker on the $5 million half-brother of Black Caviar, who is still battling laminitis, and will never race.  Noble Edict, a subsidiary of BC3 Thoroughbreds, purchased a training park, with a borrowed $1.6 million, and then added $3.2 million in "improvements" to the stabling and training tracks.  Noble Edict has failed to make several payments on the property, which they agreed to buy in September 2011.  Owners, trainers, jockeys, blood stock agencies, veterinarians, a betting club, insurance agencies, and BC3's accountants have been left holding an empty bag....

Busy June

Today is Thursday, 6 June; therefore, yesterday was 5 June.  I don't think the weather gods or Mother Nature kept their eyes on a calendar while brewing up yesterday's weather.  The high was all of 57 degrees. The average temperature for 5 June is 73 degrees...  I had to close up the apartment, not only because of the chill, but because of the humidity, a light, drizzly rain, that lasted all day.  Yuck.  I cleaned my apartment, read a bit, and loved my kits.  Today, we have nice, bright sunshine and no clouds, and I'm hoping for a high of 75...  We'll see.  It's supposed to be sunny and very warm this weekend, which will be heavenly, if it really happens.
My sister promised me a day of horseback riding for my birthday.  This morning, she confessed that she's "too confused" by all the different rides offered at all the various Sombrero Ranch locations, so she hasn't made reservations or any firm plans at all.  It's back in my lap, so I have to decide which starting point, how long we ride, and at what time we ride.  I had wanted it to be a surprise, because I've planned the last 5 outings.  So after I blog, I'll decide where and when and how long I want to ride, then write it down for her and take it to her while she's working.  That way there won't be any big boo-boos - she was trying to sign us up for a Supper ride, but I'd rather be riding in the saddle, than sitting on the ground, eating food that would probably make me sick...
Other than that, all is right with my world.  All my kits and all the other critters I care for are in good to great health.  The squirrels are fat and sassy.  The crows and ravens are playing with Lovey and Nedi.  My friends are all well and fine.  Tomorrow, after walking Rosie and making a quick visit to Alexy, to welcome her home, I'll blog about my betting choices for the Belmont Stakes.  I'll have to record the race, and see it after it's actually run, because I'll be at my niece's baby shower in Niwot for several hours Saturday afternoon.
I stay at home with my kits until the 18 of this month, and then I move in with Rosie and also take care of Paulina's two new bunnies.  Of course, I'm also walking doggies every week day.  Near the end of that time, I add the Clark kits to the mix for a week, and then it's time for a belated Wedding Party for nephew Mike and Erin....   Busy, busy, busy.
