The Humane Society of Boulder Valley is making the adoption of any cat 6 months old, or older, available at no cost - FREE - through December 31, 2013. They currently have 53 cats and kittens available for adoption. - And I personally know of two more available to a good home. - Any of the cats at the Humane Society may be viewed at: http://www.boulderhumane.org/animals/adoption/adopt_cats I personally know of two cats that were feral, and have been a tamed that are available for private adoption, also. A young (less than 4 months old) orange tabby - I believe I was told she is a girl; and an adult male Siamese seal point with crossed blue eyes. The current owner (and tamer) will pay to have the Siamese neutered - this lady has tamed multiple feral cats, but is in the process of moving, and doesn't want any of her feral colony left behind. You can contact me via the "Comments" button on this blog, and I will convey the message to Judy, the cat owner. Once, again, if you live in, or near, Boulder County, Colorado there are free adoptions at the Humane Society of Boulder Valley through 31 December; and I know of two once feral kitties that need a forever home.
In the meantime, the full body scan of my youngest brother-in-law, Kent, showed a normal body; the doctors are astounded, because they had assumed the tumor growing in Ken's brain had metastasized from another area in his body. Nope. - Kent was always the one who had to do things the longest, most difficult way.... - The MDs have now sent the biopsy of his brain to the Mayo Clinic, in hope that they might have seen something like this before. So the entire family is still set in a "wait and see" mode, which does nothing to lower the levels of anxiety and stress in the immediate family. I can't say this will be a restful Christmas and New Year's.
Also, Cap'n Barry Frishman has made it to the Philippines and is hard at work with his team. If you're interested in what's happening in the rebuilding of the Islands, please feel free to visit the group's page - http://helpventures.org/ - once there, you can click on the Blog button and see what the guys have been up to... And they are always doing good, all around the world. Barry is a specialist in digging and drilling fresh water wells.

Free Cats at Humane Society of Boulder Valley
Throughout the rest of the month of June, our local Humane Society is offering free adoptions of any feline who is aged six months or older. Boulder Valley currently has 28 cats available for free adoption, as well as 5 kittens (normal fees apply for kittens). We are seeing the usual high numbers of cats available because of students leaving town, people who have lost their homes or jobs, and folks who have suddenly discovered allergic reactions. All of the cats have had a thorough checkup by the veterinarian, have had all their shots, are spayed or neutered, and have a micro-chip for easy identification. This is Adopt a Cat month - and, I beg you, if you can afford to care for a cat and have enough love to give, please give a cat a loving home. Most animal shelters, animal rescues, and humane societies have lowered or removed adoption fees for needy cats this month. Please support them - either by adoption, sponsorship of an animal, or an out-right donation. Too many animals die daily because they are no longer wanted. And please, if you already have pets, be certain that your animals cannot reproduce - Spay or Neuter, please!!!!
Personally, I have the love needed to adopt another animal, and even though I could squeeze my budget to feed another pet, I really couldn't afford to care for it, if it became ill. My other considerations: I live in a small studio apartment, and the two cats I already have are short of space - even though I allow them to run and play in the back yard, under my watchful eyes, when I'm at home. My other consideration is that I am a dog walker, pet-sitter and house-sitter. I am frequently not at home for hours at a time - which rules out the adoption of a dog - and the space issues remove the possibility of another cat... Otherwise, I'd have every single homeless animal in the state of Colorado in my possession...

Last Three Days of Free Feline Adoption!
There are three days left to adopt a cat, free of charge, at the Humane Society of Boulder Valley. Once again, I'm asking that if you have the money, love and space to give a cat, six months of age or older, a good loving forever home, please do so. If you can't adopt due to allergies or apartment rules, you can always donate money to the HSBV that will be used to care for any animal without a home - be it cat, dog, rabbit, hamster, mouse, or a bird. It's the season of giving. Please give to the Humane Society to help save the lives of homeless, loving creatures! Thank you.

Hot, Hot Monday (Free Cat Adoptions Reminder)
We are expecting a high of 99 degrees today - at 7:30 in the morning, it is already 75 outside, and I have the oscillating fan on here in the apartment. I've cared for and walked Rosie and Remy, and I'm at home with the kits right now. It seems silly, but I am so excited about being home and sleeping in my own bed tonight! And I'm actually going to be sleeping at home until the 28th... sweet comfort, wonderful kits, lots of love, and all sorts of goodies. Yes.
The Springer fire down south of Lake George in Park County doesn't seem to be the monster that the High Park fire is. Up in Larimer County, a lot more homes have been evacuated; and, unfortunately, there are now signs of looting taking place. A man was arrested yesterday after having been stopped inside the fire area... He had stolen government tags on his truck, forged documents claiming he was a fire fighter, and several stolen items from homes in the burn area. That is totally unacceptable in my book. .... There is another Colorado wildfire down near Pagosa Springs, that has burned over 12,000 acres and is about 30% contained. And besides the huge fires in New Mexico, there is now one burning in Arizona, along the Tonto Rim - that's at 3,100 acres and only 15% contained. (If you grew up reading Zane Grey westerns, you'll recognize the Tonto Rim area...)
And a reminder that the Boulder Valley Humane Society is offering free feline adoptions through the rest of the month of June. Any kitten or cat aged six months or over is available for no charge - that includes a vet check, all vaccinations, spay or neuter, and an ID microchip. Kittens less than 6 months old are available for adoption at half the usual charge. There are currently (as of 7:51 a.m. MDT) 68 felines needing a home at the BVHS.
Here's hoping your week isn't too long or too hot!
