Finn Loves New Toy

Boy, was I sick last night.  Was I too smug about the Broncos win? - Nah, I know that I just ate something that did not agree with me.  I didn't eat anything new or unusual, so my tummy was just being a pain...  Even though I didn't get to see all of the BCS Championship last night, I was rooting for Alabama, and I'm happy they rolled over LSU.  -  Roll Tide!  (Of course, I would have preferred it to be the Gators, but one can't have everything one wishes for...)

I got Finn a new toy yesterday - a tightly stuffed football, with a squeaker, and with knotted rope handles at either end.  We play tug of war all the time, and he loves it.  The only trouble I had was last night, when Finn got over-excited, and stood up on his hind legs and boxed at my face.  I got a bloody nose.  But it was my fault, and not Finn's.  Skippy is enjoying his Temptations treats, only a few, but he attacks them with gusto.  My kits were surprised to see me this morning, since I was here yesterday afternoon.  They are both enjoying the sun, and the temperature is above freezing.  ...  We are expecting another three inches of snow tomorrow, so I won't be walking Rosie and Remy after I see Nancy in the morning.  It's possible that Susan will stop by the house in the morning, but I've already told told her I'd probably be at the Mental Health Center.  When I told her my appointment time, she concurred.  ...  And, for once, I don't have internet access while I'm at Finn's; I feel lost.  I'm used to being able to do research whenever I can't sleep, and I hadn't realized how much I would miss that opportunity.

Looking forward to the new NCIS episode tonight, and the new Person of Interest on Thursday.  Then I'll be waiting for Saturday to see the Broncos battle the Patriots. - I wish a pox upon Tom Brady, and a curse upon all Patriot homes.  I wish good luck, good fortune, and winning ways to the Denver Broncos!

Congratulations

John Elway congratulates Tim Tebow after the Broncos win
the AFC Wildcard game over the Steelers.

A Nice Day

It's 52 degrees outside, the wind is calm, and the sun is gleaming - what a nice day!  I walked Finn early this morning, having taken out the trash for pick up, and we had a great time.  At 10, I walked Rosie and Remy, being careful after Remy's slip and fall last Thursday.  His owners told me he had fallen down the stairs last night, and weren't going to have me walk him, just take Rosie.  But Remy was so eager to go, that the owners relented. We had a slow, but steady, 55 minute walk, and Remy was fine throughout.  I did have to keep slowing Rosie down, but that was OK.  She ran free for 5 minutes in the Snow back yard and had a ball.  My kits have loved all over me and are now outside, enjoying the sun.

In the AFC Wild Card Playoffs yesterday, the Pittsburgh Steelers were favored to beat the Broncos by 9 points.  One of the Broncos' best defensive players was out of the game with an injury, and in the first quarter, one of the wide receivers was lost with a torn ACL.  (And reports abounded that the Broncos' quarterback was someone who could not throw passes.)  The Steelers got two field goals in the first quarter, while Denver did not score.  In the second quarter, Denver scored two touchdowns and two field goals, while Pittsburgh did not score.  In the second half, the Steelers slowly made up missed points, and then passed the Broncos with a field goal (23-20).  Matt Prater kicked a Broncos field goal to tie the score.  Bingo.  Over time.
The Broncos won the toss and elected to receive.  Steelers kicked a touch back, and so the first play of over time was at the 20 yard line, with the goal 80 yards away.  The Broncos won the game by a touch down, taking 11 seconds off the clock.   (The Steelers had beaten the Broncos in their last Playoff game exactly six years ago.)  Broncos now play the New England Patriots  Saturday....  Go orange and blue Mile-High Broncos!  (Yippee!!!)  I think everyone will get tired of seeing the Tebow pass to Thomas, who stiff-arms Ike Taylor and then just runs.......

Denver Faces

Amelia Earhart (KUSA) and her plane

Brian Dawkins will be on the sidelines, again, today, with a neck injury

I have been a fan of Champ Bailey's since his college days - I'm so happy he is a Bronco!

Amelia Earhart

It started snowing around 3 yesterday afternoon, and I'd guess that about 3inches fell in total.  Due to the warmth of the past few days, there is less than a half-inch on the ground, and the streets are clear, other than icy patches.  It's 19 degrees out and the sun is beaming in a cloudless sky.  The kits have been running in and out, and I know that both of them have been playing in the snow: I've seen Nedi and Lovey has wet paws.  I thoroughly enjoyed the Saints and Lions game last night, and I'm looking forward to the Broncos game this afternoon.

I had to do a double-take at the TV this morning - I knew I was hearing a very familiar voice, but it suddenly dawned on me that the voice was presenting the weather segment, which it normally doesn't.  I looked to be sure, and there was Amelia Earhart, presenting the local weather segment.  When I first met Amelia, she was doing the traffic report from the 9 News chopper; lately, she's been inside on the set, showing the traffic flow via the DOT cameras.  But this is the first time I've seen her "do" the weather....  I'm sure you're wondering about her name.  She is a distant cousin (twice removed) from the aviatrix Amelia Earhart, and she was named after her.  She also has her flying license, and, at the end of last year, re-created one of the original flights of the famous aviator.  She is a very nice person and has a bubbly personality; she is also an excellent interviewer.  It was just a surprise to see her, and not one of the regular meteorologists, this morning.

I need to pack up my gear for my stay at Finn's.  His folks are supposed to pick me up before the Broncos game, so I hope to see all of the contest.  I'll return home (other than kit visits) on Thursday, and then I'll head back over to their house on the third of February, for another week.  Unless something comes up, I'll be at home until February, so I can continue to work on the Snow and Sanborn family trees, and getting my furniture rearranged to my satisfaction...   Have a good Sunday, and a great week!

A Critter Day

The day before yesterday my blog was titled "Heat Wave", and I talked about walking the Irish Setters, the weather, the boys who deliberately ran over Canada geese, and the hit-and-run accident that left a CU student in the hospital.  The following morning, I had a comment, which I turned on (rather expectantly); I had to laugh when I found it was an ad for a dog-walking service in Plano, Texas!  Hello, commenter!  I walk dogs in Boulder, Colorado...  I certainly do not need the services of someone in Plano, Texas!  All day yesterday I found myself chuckling over the comment; someone apparently has an automated comment producer.

I head back over to Finn and Skippy tomorrow - I hope the family leaves before, or after, the Broncos game.  They are supposed to come pick me up before they leave town.  So, tomorrow is the Broncos game; Monday is the day I have to take all my paperwork into town to qualify for low-cost medical care; Wednesday I see my therapist; and Friday I see my GP and get my blood pressure medication renewed,as well as my blood drawn, so I'll be fasting after midnight.  Finn and Skippy's family are due back Thursday afternoon, so I'll have a car for most of the time.  I just hope it doesn't snow much tomorrow, as the Mini is awful to drive in the snow!  ...  There are high clouds to both the east and west, but the sun is shining, even though it's only 25 degrees outside.  But we have yet to receive any snow, and I, personally, don't think it will snow until tonight.  (It doesn't smell right for snow, at the moment.)  Lovey and Nedi are sunning in the window, and I have peanuts out for the squirrels.

I'm laughing like an idiot at the folks who are usually in the studio at KUSA (NBC) in Denver; because the National Western Stock Show officially opens today, they have had reporters at the Stock Show complex.  Most of them have been there before, and/or grew up around large animals.  A breeder brought in two young (just weaned) alpacas to visit the studio.  The breeder couldn't guarantee that the girls wouldn't relieve themselves on the floor, so the inside reporters went outside to  talk to the breeders and to visit with the young alpacas.  Before they went off the air, the female reporter said she could verify that alpacas spit and they don't smell.  At which time one of the girls dropped a large pile behind her.  The reporter sniffed, and the most awful expression crossed her face, just as the station finished the broadcast.
