Yesterday we had a foggy morning that lasted until after 10; the sun has burned the fog off already this morning, thank goodness. We did have a small rain shower early this morning, but it was barely enough to wet the grass... and we had several wildfire outbreaks yesterday. Fire season is upon us, and we need a lot more moisture.
I am mourning a family I never met. They lived in Princess Anne, Maryland, on the Eastern Shore. Rodney Todd worked in Food Services for the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore. He and his wife had recently divorced. Mr Todd had received full custody of his seven children. Todd and his children rented, and moved into, a house in Princess Anne in November 2014. The owner had turned off the power in October, and Delmarva Power had removed the electric meter. Somehow, the electric meter Mr Todd and his family were using, was declared "stolen" and Delmarva Power removed the electric meter and turned the power off to the home in March 2015. The Todd family tried to "make do" with a gas-powered generator inside the kitchen. The last time any of the family was seen, at work, or in the yard, was on March 28. A co-worker became concerned when Rodney Todd did not appear for work, and did not answer his phone. When police arrived for a "wellness check," they found all eight members of the family dead in their beds - presumably from carbon monoxide poisoning. What a terrible loss for a small town.
I've been informed that the giant Viking, who first stood on Maddox Boulevard, and then at Pony Swim Lane on Chincoteague Island has been removed. I remember him on Maddox Blvd, myself. A lot of people are bemoaning his loss.
I'd also like to thank Ted, an artist in Berkeley, for his very nice e-mail. It's nice to be appreciated!
