A New Foal - And Other Foals

First, foal 49 has joined us - Kachina and Hoppy have produced what looks to be a buckskin baby. Seen from a distance, and not seen clearly, so sex is definitely unknown. Baby spotted this morning, 30 May...

Foal 48 is a filly, the daughter of A Splash of Freckles and Legacy:

And, today's "bonus" is a series of photos of two foals sired by Wild, playing together... They are both bay pintos. - The colt (# 9) is a darker base color, out of Summer's Gentle Sea Breeze, and was born on 20 April. The filly (#13) is lighter in color and has a splash of white on her neck; she is out of Tuleta Star, and was born on 27 April. - She's leading in the first photo; he's leading in the second...

Newest Chincoteague Pony Foals and Up-dated Photos

There are three new foals to report on the Virginia side of Assateague Island... Bling Bling (registered name Diamond's Bay Dream) and Chief Golden Eagle had a bay filly on 16 May; and two new babies were spotted yesterday - Lorna Dune and Prince of Tides have a palomino pinto, and Friendly Girl (also known as Witch Kraft) and Chief had a chestnut pinto colt. Friendly Girl is currently the oldest pony on the Virginia end, at 27 years of age; her last foal was in 2016, when she and Wild Thing had a chestnut pinto filly. Lorna Dune's buy back donor spotted the foal yesterday - but the mare is way out in the middle of the Plover Flats, so close viewing is impossible. The photos of her foal were taken by Kathleen Cahall, and belong solely to her.

Surfer's Riptide Returned to Assateague - Two of His Mares Foal

Riptide was removed for Pony Jail at the Carnival Grounds on Chincoteague yesterday morning and placed inside the corral on Assateague's southern end. By late afternoon, all of his mares had converged to the corral, so the men from the CVFC Pony Committee opened the gates, and let the ladies rejoin their man. (Summer was the only mare who didn't appear, and it's possible that the two lead mares have driven her away during Riptide's absence.) Early morning visitors to the corral today found a brand new foal with Got Milk - a handsome bay colt with four socks, a large blaze (like Riptide's) and a blue eye on the right. Not long after, Loveland's Secret Feather gave birth to a filly - a bay pinto with two blue eyes. She is minimally marked with color - her right side is white and the outer side of her right ear is brown; she has a black forelock and a teeny strip of black mane between her ears, and a brown left ear, and a tiny brown spot near her left flank. There is a break in the color between her ears, so she is not a Medicine Hat....

Three More Chincoteague Pony Foals - and Winter Moon Pedigree Information

Up until I raised my doubts about the lineage of Winter Moon, one of the donated mares given to the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company, no had ever tracked down her pedigree. It has now been proven that Winter Moon is, indeed, the daughter of WH Nightmist, a direct descendant of Misty of Chincoteague. So I can now feel that I can truly announce that the first Misty descendant born free on Assateague was the son of Winter Moon and the Don Leonard Stud II. Here's a photo of the bay pinto colt playing with the son of Sonny's Legacy and Riptide. He was first seen on April 8th. (He's the foal in action in this shot, if you don't know coat colors.) These two foals, 4 and 5, were taken, with their dams to the Carnival Grounds, to have a better bonding experience. They are back on Assateague now.

Two more foals were spotted yesterday, the 28th, and one was seen this morning. Both foals born yesterday were fillies; the sex of today's foal is as yet unknown. Yesterday morning, Darcy and Steve Cole saw a new chestnut pinto filly at Tiger Lily's side (she's also known as Waterbaby) ; the sire is Ajax. The second filly was seen by Captain Dan yesterday after at the side of Tuleta Star; this bay pinto was sired by Wild Thing. And Captain was, again, the first spotter of Tunie (aka Queenie) and Hoppy's solid bay foal seen this morning... There's a good reason that his Around the Island Tours is also known as "the Foal Patrol!"

2017 Chincoteague Pony Foals 31 through 40

These are photos from different sources and people, some are copyrighted (mainly by Darcy and Steve Cole, owners of DSC Photography of Greenbackville, Virginia), some are not. Copyrighted photos are always marked so.
The names in quotation marks after the sex id are my personal names for the foals - of course, whoever actually purchases the babies will give them their registered names - but this helps me keep them straight....
The photos are also NOT arranged chronologically - I just try to choose shots that give a good view of markings on each side, as well as a facial shot... Sometimes a butt shot will be included because of bulls-eyes or tail markings - a half-color tail, or a tipped tail, etc...
