Four New Chincoteague Pony Foals Plus One in Maryland

The folks of the Assateague Island Alliance in Maryland are celebrating their second foal of 2019 (the first was born in January).  Gokey Go Go Bones and stallion Yankee  have a chestnut filly, born overnight either on Friday the 10th of May, or early Saturday morning, the 11th....   Dad is at left in the photo below, with black mud up to his knees - he has white forelegs...  Photo is by Karen Roquemore Lockard.

Down in Virginia, things are hopping on the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge; the count is now 34 foals through yesterday evening.  The weather has been nasty with wind, rain, and riptides, so a lot of normal hiking and boating activities were not done.  Two new foals were spotted on Monday, 13 May; and two new foals on 14 May.

Foal # 31 - a bay foal for Little Miss Sunshine, who spent her
time with three stallions last year....  Possible sires are Maverick,
Don Leonard Stud II, and Beach Boy  (Photo by Captain Dan)

Foal # 32 - a bay filly for Precious Jewel and Legacy

Foal # 33  -  a chestnut pinto colt for Sweet Jane (Duckie) and Puzzle

Foal # 34 - is a chestnut baby for Kimmee Sue and Ken

The post position draw for the Preakness Stakes will be held at 5 EDT this afternoon.  Once it's been done, and the morning line betting odds are posted, I will post it....

New Foal on Assateague in Maryland

While doing their census of ponies on Assateague Island in Maryland a week or so ago, the National park Service discovered a new baby in the stallion Chestnut's band.  The dam is Shasta, and the filly's estimated birth date is 16 November - here are a few photos of the dam and foal...

It looks like she has a small triangle of white on her left elbow, also.
