Bodie Miller's crash on Wednesday at the Alpine Skiing Championships at Vail was very upsetting. This was his first race after back surgery, and he was leading all the other male contestants for fastest time. Less than half-way down the slope, his right arm caught a course flag, and he went spinning off course. In falling, he went head over heels a couple of times, plus rolling; his skis popped off his boots. One of the skis appeared to bounce off the back of his right knee, and all of his gear kept traveling. Bodie brought himself to a stop, stood up, and made it to the foot of the hill, where he picked up his small daughter and hugged his wife. In the meantime, EMTs were wrapping his right leg in bandages. Bodie had to have over 100 stitches to repair the slicing cut from that free ski; it cut deeply into his calf muscle and completely severed his hamstring tendon. Poor guy is out of racing for a couple of months (at least) again....
I wrote yesterday about the cement truck rolling down the bank and almost falling into Boulder Creek, also on Wednesday. The Boulder Fire Department was pretty upset that they found out about the accident through live television coverage... Here is a photo from that mess:
I have finished reading two more Special Agent Pendergast books, and have started reading The Faerie Wars - I have the next three Pendergast books requested from the library, and am eagerly awaiting an e-mail stating they are ready for pick-up.
