Believe You Can Wins KY Oaks

Thursday evening, I wrote that I liked the pedigrees of 3 fillies in today's Kentucky Oaks.  Believe You Can, a daughter of Proud Citizen, out of El Fasto, was one of them.  She won the Oaks' Lilies, beating Broadway's Alibi by 3/4 length, with favorite Grace Hall in third.  The other two pedigrees I liked belonged to Summer Applause and On Fire Baby, who finished fourth and fifth.  I liked the looks of Jemima's Pearl - she finished tenth out of 14, as Oaks Lily was scratched. The filly (Believe You Can) is owned by previous Kentucky Governor Brereton Jones, and was ridden by Rosie Napravnik.  Rosie became the first female jockey to win the Kentucky Oaks - which seems fitting, since today was the Susan G. Komen's Race Against Breast Cancer Day at Churchill Downs.
El Fasto is a the daughter of El Prado - and if you trace his pedigree back, you find *Forli - so Believe You Can is a cousin of the younger horses I worked with at Sleepy Hollow Horse Farm.
